Type: Barred Spiral Galaxy
The Andromeda Galaxy (Messier 31 or M31) is the nearest major galaxy to the Milky Way, located approximately 2.5 million light-years away, and is the largest member of the Local Group of galaxies. It is a barred spiral galaxy, similar to our own, that can be seen with the naked eye and contains over a trillion stars. Andromeda is notable for its enigmatic double nucleus, a supermassive black hole, and dwarf satellite galaxies M110 (lower right) and M32 (upper left).
Image taken from my observatory in Galera with an exposure time of 18.0 hours.
